Ladybirds Pre-School

Ladybirds Pre-School ‘stepped up’ and joined in the fun at the Step Up 4 Good event in 2017.  ‘We had a live project on the good exchange platform, raising money for some vital equipment needed, and it seemed an excellent way to raise some extra funds whilst also encouraging participation and exercise within our school’. We usually run a sponsored event during the year and the opportunity to join in with a community event but still raise money for our own project was just ideal.  We entered with a team of children, parents, grandparents, staff and even a couple of dogs!  The feeling that this event really was open to participants of all ages and abilities was tangible and our little runners were all cheered over the line – even those being carried by their mums! The event was well organised, the children loved getting their chips and t-shirts which made them feel like ‘proper runners’ – and to get a medal at the end – wow they were so proud!  The staff and parents attempted the 5K run and I heard a few at the end muttering their intentions to sign up for the 10K this year!  We will definitely be making the StepUp4Good event a regular fixture on our calendar and can’t wait until the next one.

Robert Sandilands

In 2017 to encourage local children to get active and take part in Stepup4Good, Greenham Trust ran a prize draw for local primary schools. All primary schools who registered 10 or more runners in the event were entered into a prize draw to win £500 towards items or equipment for which the school would not normally have budget.

Robert Sandilands School were fundraising for new playground equipment and were keen to get involved. Fourteen children and their families took part and were delighted to be the lucky winners of the prize draw.   Along with the £500 prize money, they also raised £657 in sponsorship which was matched funded by Greenham Trust, for their playground project on The Good Exchange.

Libby Bucknell, acting headmistress, explained how delighted the school were: “On behalf of everyone at Robert Sandilands School, I would like to thank Greenham Trust for organising the event. We all had a fabulous time and the pupils are over the moon to have won the prize draw”.

All the money went towards new playground equipment, from which the whole school community has greatly benefited by becoming more active, having fun and increasing each child’s personal and physical development.

Libby was very enthusiastic about the event, and is already looking forward to taking part again on 14th October 2018, bringing even more students to run with her this time.

Brighter Futures

“As I stood at the start line for the StepUp4Good 5km, I was full of trepidation. This was my first competitive run for 30 years, but I was soon swept along by the cheering crowds and supportive participants. The route across Greenham common is stunning, and easy to navigate round the course. I felt incredibly proud of myself running across the finish line, knowing I had helped raise hundreds of pounds for Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal” – Jane Leighton, Trusts Fundraiser, Brighter Futures
